Applied Spectra Awarded NASA Phase I SBIR Funding
FREMONT, Calif. (February 2, 2009) — Applied Spectra, Inc., announced today that it has been awarded Phase I SBIR funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Using complementary spectroscopic techniques with LIBS technology, the goal of this SBIR project is to develop an analytical device, capable of analyzing key isotopic composition in surface materials without sample preparation. The program will be led by Dr. Alexander Bolshakov, Ph.D.
“Applied Spectra continues to push the technical potential of LIBS plasma for advanced material detection capability,” said Dr. Bolshakov. “We hope to develop a next-generation analytical technology for NASA, which can be used for developing a compact sensor for planet exploration.”
The initial Phase I contract period lasts six months.
