Applied Spectra Awarded Air Force DOD Phase II SBIR Funding

FREMONT, Calif. (May 15, 2006) — Applied Spectra, Inc. announced that the company has been awarded Phase II Small Business Research Innovation (SBIR) funding from the Air Force Department of the Department of Defense (DOD). The goal of this program is to continue to advance LIBS capability to detect and discriminate propellant residues on various material surfaces.

“After successfully demonstrating LIBS technology's viability for measuring energetic materials, we are pleased to learn that we were awarded a Phase II program that extends our Phase I technical efforts," said Dr. Jong Yoo, Ph.D, Vice President of Technology and Marketing. “We look forward to working with the Air Force to deliver a LIBS hardware and software platform which will advance detection capabilities for substances of national security concern.”

The Phase II program contract period will be for two years.
